Uncertainty in the workplace

Self-confidence and self-esteem are two very important conditions for experiencing happiness in the workplace. As many as one in five Dutch employees experience doubts about his or her abilities to be successful at work. Happiness and self-confidence often go hand in hand and are vital for employees, and therefore for employers as well. Below you can read in nine tips to combat insecurity and how to boost your job satisfaction.

Self-confidence is trusting yourself

Self-confidence is a state in which you have (strong) confidence in your own abilities. Uncertainty is often due to being overly concerned with the opinions of others. "Do my colleagues think I'm suitable?" "Will they like me?" Usually these thoughts stem from a lack of self-confidence, as well as being too concerned with the opinions of others. Finding a balance between these is the trick, and this blog is going to help you do that.

Work on your appearance

 Clothes make the man' 1.

This proverb is still relevant today, perhaps we can now turn it into "clothes make the man. Put on clean and neat clothes to work every day. You will find that this really affects your state of mind, it reduces insecurity and boosts self-confidence.

2. De-stress with exercise

Regular exercise is also highly recommended. You feel better after exercising, it is a real de-stresser and exercise produces hormones that make you feel better. Are you looking for a coach who makes you sweat? Find out quickly on :Johan.

3. Have an approachable attitude

While we're at it; pay attention to your attitude right away. With an open and approachable attitude you will make a positive(er) impression on others. With hunched shoulders and your eyes on the ground you will not attract positivity. So: head up and shoulders straight!

Showcase your talents and qualities

1. Show what you have to offer

It is very important that you are able to use your talents and qualities in your work. If this is not the case, see if you can find somewhere else. Think of volunteer work or a creative skill. Perhaps examining whether your current work (still) suits you sufficiently is also a good step. There are a lot of vacancies right now, maybe even at your current employer. Johan can help you.

2. Step out of your comfort zone

Stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while is very difficult for many people. Doing something you didn't dare to do before gives a great boost to your self-confidence. You will be amazed at your own abilities!

3. Learn (from) yourself

Being insecure at work and lacking self-confidence, it's no small thing. But with attention and patience, a person can teach himself a lot. By practicing certain skills, you can build more self-confidence. :Johan helps you do this.

Reward yourself, every now and then

1. Give yourself a reward

Being strict with yourself can be incredibly fruitful, but rewarding yourself is also very important. After accomplishing a certain feat, allow yourself a day off or a nice vacation. Even something small, such as dinner or a bunch of flowers, can make a difference.

2. Give (yourself) compliments

When you've completed a big job, helped a colleague well or handled that one complaint well: compliment yourself! Paying a compliment is also good for your mood, and of course for the person you paid the compliment to. So bring on those compliments, you're great!

3. Seek support from others

For many people, asking others for help is a big step. Don't make it a monster! Seek support from someone you trust, someone who understands you. In :Johan's digital portal, you can find the professional help you need.
